Prevalence of Mange Mite in Small Ruminants at Babile District, Eastern Hararghe Zone, East Ethiopia

- A cross sectional study was conducted from December 2007 to March 2008 to estimate prevalence of mange mites in small ruminants and to assess associated risk factors with its existence. The study was carried out in Babile district in nine peasant associations. A total of 384 small ruminants randomly selected of which 326 goats and 58 sheep were examined for the presence of mange mites, from which the overall prevalence was 3.38% (n = 13). The genera of mange mite identified with the study were Demodex (Demodex follicularum var. caprae) from goats. There was significance difference in prevalence and distribution of mange mite between age classes. Young goats were found to be at high risk of mange mite infection than their counter parts (p
