Review on the Role of Enzyme Supplementation on Egg Production Performance of Layer

Esubalew Shitaneh Abu
Poultry lacks the alloenzymes from rumen microflora and thus it becomes necessary to incorporate the enzymes in their diets to derive optimal nutrient utilization. Enzymes are increasing the availability of nutrients by digesting the feed components during storage or after consumption within the gastrointestinal tract. The aim of this review to highlight the effect of exogenous enzyme supplementation on the egg production performance of layers and illustrate suitable substrates. Enzymes are biological catalysts composed of amino acids with vitamins and minerals. Some of the enzymes used in poultry ration cellulase β-glucanases, xylanases and associated enzymes, phytases, proteases, lipases, and galactosidases. The activity of enzyme in the animal was depends on type of animal, type of breed, mode of enzyme action, availability of phosphorous in the feed. Based on this review the responses of enzymes are varying result in different feed ingredients and poultry breeds. Different authors indicated that supplementation of the exogenous enzyme was improved feed intake, nutrient digestibility; slightly increases egg production when added to poultry diets containing cereals but the response is not consistent. Generally, enzymes increase egg production, hatchability and also maintain egg quality. From review point of view, I recommend the optimum inclusion rate of enzyme in the poultry diet will be identified and the best substrates for the effectiveness of enzyme action in poultry ration will be further investigated.
